Competencies in this level of qualification offer the floral assistant with skills and knowledge that are beyond the basics to enhance their work performance.

Unit Abbreviation: Bouquets

Unit Objective
On successful completion of this unit, the participant will have the knowledge and application skills to prepare and arrange fresh flower bouquets. The unit covers preparing and arranging flowers as bouquets in design forms which may include circular (posy), spiral (Strauss) bouquet, vertical hand-tied bouquet, modern hand-tied bouquet and Biedermeier and the creative use of bows, wraps, and accessories to dress the bouquets.

Unit Abbreviation: Base

Unit Objective
On successful completion of this unit, the participant will have the knowledge and application skills to prepare and arrange floral items using a base medium. The unit covers skills and techniques to prepare a number of arrangements based upon a variety of design forms to include circular (posy) bowl, fan-shape form, asymmetrical and symmetrical triangle forms, vertical form, crescent form, Hogarth curve form, an arrangement in a container using a variety of base mediums.

The unit covers techniques to prepare a selection of presentation containers. It includes the arrangement of floral material, assorted giftware, accessories, creative dressing with bows, wraps, and accessories, combined with the theme of the container and the needs of the client.

Unit Objective
On successful completion of this unit, the participant will have the knowledge and application skills to monitor the quality and provide care for floral, foliage, and plant materials. The unit covers skills and techniques to ensure the quality of material during conditioning, storage, maintenance, and delivery, with emphasis on hygiene practices and the provision of after-sale care and education to customers.

2. Monitor the quality of purchased wholesale stock of fresh flowers and plant material
3. Monitor the practices of preparation, conditioning and storage to ensure quality of fresh flowers and foliage

1. Describe plant structures and relate their functions to plant health and flower longevity

Funding

Certifiable courses approved by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will receive SSG's funding:

(1) Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents ≥ Age 21

(2) SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES) – for Singaporeans ≥ Age 40

 

All the applicants must attain minimum attendance of 75% in the course, attempt all assessments and be certified competent in order to be eligible for the funding. Failing which the applicant is liable to the forfeiture of the grant and bear the full course.
